How cellular shades help insulate

Simply put, the air trapped within the cells of the fabric act as a buffer between the air temperature closest to the window pane and a room's average air temperature. This will slow the effects of exterior temperature extremes on the interior temperature. See Product R-values

Keeping rooms warmer in winter, cooler in summer
By reducing energy loss around windows, your heating and cooling systems don't need to work as hard to maintain a comfortable room temperature. This ultimately reduces energy consumption all year long. Besides the cost savings, reducing energy consumption is also good for the planet.

Choosing shades to save energy
In general, the most energy-efficient cellular shades styles are those that are double-cell and made with a room-darkening, tightly-woven fabric. In single-cell, blackout styles with a mylar-lined cell are also an excellent choice.

Energy and the effect of color

As we all know after touching a black car that's been sitting under a hot sun, dark colors attract and retain heat. In warm climates, where controlling air conditioning costs is important, choosing a pale colored shade, one that helps dissipate heat, is definitely worth considering. This is especially true for large windows with intense afternoon sun exposure. In the same way, in a colder climate you may consider choosing a darker color shade that will help to retain heat and inhibit heat loss. But remember, controlling energy loss is just one factor to consider when choosing window treatments. Aesthetics and function are also important.

UV Ray protection and R-Values

Present in sunlight but invisible with the naked eye, ultra-violet rays (UV) are responsible for the deterioration of home furnishing fabrics and the premature fading of colors. Blinds To Go window coverings help reduce these harmful effects by limiting UV ray transmission. R-values are a measure of resistance to heat flow. An uncovered, double-glazed window has an R-value of 1.82 and an insulated exterior wall has an R-value of 13.2. Below, you'll find a table of UV Transmission values and R-values (window + shade) of some of our cellular shade products.

Care & Maintenance

Solid Tones
Regular dusting with a feather duster or vacuum cleaner brush is recommended. Most stains can be blotted with a damp sponge and mild detergent. For problem stains, the shade can be removed from the installation brackets and soaked in warm water. When damp, raise shade tightly to recrisp pleats. Before using anything stronger than a mild detergent and lukewarm water, test an unobtrusive corner of the shade.

Acapella
Use a feather duster or vacuum on a low setting and stroke lightly over the shade. To clean with water, use a lukewarm damp sponge or clothe with mild soap and wipe with very light strokes. Do not immerse entire shade in water or use chemical cleaners.

Cantata, Sonata, Sonata ¾, Lullaby & Lullaby ¾
Use a feather duster or vacuum on a low setting and stroke lightly over the shade. To clean with water, use a lukewarm damp sponge or clothe with mild soap and wipe with very light strokes. Do not immerse entire shade in water or use chemical cleaners.
