Guess Those Blinds: Testing Our Window Treatment Knowledge In Popular 90s Sitcoms

See how well you can identify window treatments from popular sitcoms.

Introducing Guess! Those! Blinds!

*insert canned sitcom audience cheering here*

We’ve all experienced watching a show and then a costume or a set piece appears and you think ‘huh that...doesn’t quite fit. All of a sudden, you’re pulled out of the story. It’s not something you think you pay attention to until it’s wrong. So since we eat, sleep, and breathe blinds here at Blinds To Go, we decided to test our knowledge of the window treatments in some of our favorite popular sitcoms.

Here is the game—our producer gave our contestants two screenshots of windows from popular 2000s and 90s sitcoms. The screenshots were exactly the same, except that one featured the original window treatments, while the other had been edited to show a different style of window treatment. The team with the most correct answers wins the game.

Watch our Red Team and Blue Team try to tell which window treatments were actually in Friends, The Office, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and more here or keep reading to test your own knowledge (just don't scroll too far past each image unless you want to get spoiled!)

Guess Those Blinds: Popular 90s Sitcoms Edition

Round 1: The Office

Red Team: Ok well it's definitely The Office, the horizontal blinds give it away immediately. I think we're going to go with option A off the bat.

Blue Team: Our first thought is the aluminum blinds, but looking at the verticals we are starting to second guess a bit. We're not totally aligned here but we're going to go with option B.

Two images of michael scott's desk and the window behind it. The image on the left has horizontal aluminum blinds on the window and the letter A written in red on the top left corner. The image on the right has vertical blinds and the letter B written in the top left corner.

Answer: A

Round 2: Full House

Red Team: First of all let us be vlear we were paying much more attention to John Stamos than worrying about the blinds in Full House. That being said, that boat looks much more noticeable in option A but we feel strongly that it's option B, so we're going with that.

Blue Team: Ok drapery or faux woods. And faux woods with the fabric tape which feels very of its era. Neither option looks totally right so it might be a trick question...we're going to go with B.

Two images of the living room from full house side by side, the only difference in the images is the window treatment. The image on the left has drapery on the window and the letter A written in red in the top left corner. The image on the right has faux wood blinds on the window and the letter B written in red in the top left corner.

Answer: A

Round 3: Friends part 1

Red Team: We think that option B—B just looks too clean and like, in your face. Our guts are both saying A. Everything just feels too focused on the windows in option B. Final answer is A.

Blue Team: When it's a show you've seen so many times, like Friends, you want to be confident in your answer but honestly, we were simply not paying attention to the blinds while watching this. But we just do not think that two mid-20s guys in the 90s would be putting drapery in their windows. We're going to go B again.

Answer: A

Round 4: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Red Team: Wild things were happening in the 90s, but we don't think that they would put vertical blinds in front of French doors. Also, because this is a TV set, maybe they don't think they have to do both and could just have the little shade on top. We don't remember for sure but we feel like A is fake, wer'e going with B.

Blue Team: It's almost certainly B. When they came through the doors there was nothing there. It's B, final answer.

Two images of the Banks family's living room, facing the patio french doors. The only difference in the images is the window treatments. The image on the left has vertical blinds over the french doors and a red letter A in the top left corner. The image on the right has nothing over the french doors and a red letter B written in the top left corner.

Answer: B

Round 5: Friends part 2

Red Team: Oh god three options this time. What do we have here, there's drapes to the side of A, nothing on B, and then C has woven wood. Ok but wasn't there a plot where they look at their neighbors? Ugly nakes guy? So there had to be something there. And in the kitchen there is a valence situation going on. Do we throw in a wildcard and say C? Let's go with C.

Blue Team: You have to image the things they would do at that window, right? They would go in and out a lot, they would look at their neighbor's house. We don't think it was drapery. We have a good feeling about C, our final answer is C.

Three images side by side of Rachel and Monica's living room in Friends, facing the windows. The only difference between the three images is the window treatment. The image on the left has drapery and the letter A typed in red in the top left corner. The center image has nothing, and the letter B written in red in the top left corner. The image on the right has woven wood shades and the letter C typed in the top left corner.

Answer: C

Takeaways:

Red Team: It was more challenging than we thought, because the differences were way more subtle, and I feel like you were watching the chartacters, you were watching the plot. You weren't necessaerily looking out the windows. Shout out to the people who do set design, they're all heroes.

Blue Team: Nothing was really a surprise, we're kind of pros at this point. Which is definitely why we got so many of the answers wrong. But yeah like we said before, window treatments are one of those things that you don't natually pay attention to but when they feel wrong you can really tell the difference.
