Cordless Blinds & Shades — Easier & Safer

Cordless is a much sought after option many people look for in today’s window treatments.

Is it time to get cordless window shades or blinds?

When was the last time you shopped for window treatments? Maybe it’s been a while, or maybe it’s your first time. For many, the number of options and features is mind boggling. Take lift mechanisms, for example. What used to be a simple pully system has expanded into a variety of cordless, motorized and automated options. Most people like the look of cordless blinds and cordless shades but want to know more so hopefully this article will shed a little light on cordless window blinds and shades.

Will cordless window shades make my home look more modern?

If you're hoping to achieve a clean and modern look—strings and chains aren't going to help you get there. Cordless window treatments minimize visual distraction by limiting clutter on and around your windows. That's not to say that a silver beaded chain will look dated or distracting, but most people find they prefer the clean look of cordless window shades and blinds.

Are cordless blinds "easy to use blinds"?

Unless you have a window that's in a hard to reach place, a cord-free experience is almost always easier to operate than corded. Simply push the bottom bar of the shade or blind up to the desired height or pull it down to the desired height to close it partially or fully. We suggest two hand operation in all cases. And there are several different cordless window shades options -- each one with its own set of benefits.

Are cordless window treatments more expensive?

Cordless shades can be more expensive than their corded counterparts in many cases. In regions where corded products are offered as an alternative to cordless, or even offered as the standard base model in each category of blind and shade, the corded option is usually the budget-friendly choice. But it is increasingly becoming the norm for safety regulations to limit the sale of corded window shades and blinds. If you are reading this article months or years after it was written, corded products may no longer be available in your area. The good news is that such regulations are driving down the cost of cordless products and forcing companies to provide budget-friendly options, in order to insure that they have options for every price point. And there are some products that are more cost-effective than others from the beginning so it is often the case that a product like cordless faux wood blinds, which are traditionally budget-friendly, can have a lower price point when cordless than some of the more elegant and decorative window treatments, like roman shades even at their corded price. Keep in mind that some products, like shutters or curtains or drapery are naturally cordless. Learn more about our cordless options on the Blinds To Go website.

Safe blinds for kids and pets:

"Are cordless shades safer for my home? Absolutely, cordless is the safest option. There's a reason cordless window treatments are recommended by groups like the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the Window Covering Safety Council who are dedicated to educating parents and caregivers about the potential strangulation risks of window blind and shade cords. And they're safer for kids and pets, too!

Note: In recent years, manufacturers have shortened the length of their cords to minimize risk of strangulation.
